How Is Spiritual Fruit Produced in Christians? – John 15:1-6
How is spiritual fruit produced in the life of a Christian? What about plants? Have you ever seen a branch or leaf that can survive without the stalk of the plant? No. That’s not the way it works is it?
Have you ever seen a child that after birth cares for himself and feeds himself and clothes himself? Never — that’s not the way it works is it?

We’ve started out the year with eight days of prayer because prayer is a life blood of the church. We began the year with this emphasis on prayer because we will not be a church that grows spiritually, we will not be effective for the Lord Jesus Christ, we will not please God, if we aren’t serious about prayer.
Last week as we began the new year I gave you 3 reasons, as God’s children, we are to pray. First, we are commanded to pray. Second, Jesus prayed, and if Jesus needed to pray so do we. Third, the early church learned quickly that they needed to pray and they made it their continual practice to pray as God’s people.

North Country Notes – January 6, 2012
It’s Friday as I write and it’s been a beautiful and warm day here in northern Michigan. Rare, spring-like warmth for January. I had to remind myself it was winter.
We’re almost at the end of our eight days of prayer at Higgins Lake Baptist Church. We had almost thirteen and a half hours of daily prayer commitments. I’m so encouraged by that. Thank you for your prayer commitments. I’ve heard from some of you who’ve said you found you prayed much longer each day than you had planned. That’s great! Why Pray as God’s People? Isn’t God in control? Doesn’t God already know all about our needs? So why pray?

Christmas joy. I asked you last week to think carefully about whether you’d be able to find reason for joy at Christmas, even if we had none of the Christmas celebrating, like all the decorating, gift giving, and gatherings we’ve grown so accustomed to. And we noted that there are, wonderful reasons for joy. We saw them in the first few verses of Luke 2 last week. I want you to go there with me again this morning. We’re going to look at a few more verses here in Luke 2 and we’ll see there are even more reasons for joy than we saw last time.
