Following the 8 days of prayer we enjoyed during the first eight days of 2012 I’m asking…

“Will you continue to pray?

I want to make this straightforward and easy to remember.

Beginning in February on the 1st and 15th of each month we’re asking you to commit to praying for the ministry of Higgins Lake Baptist Church for at least 15 minutes.

Some of you pray for this ministry a great deal more than this already. Thank you! But I’d like to ask all of you to join with me, making a commitment to take this simple step in faithful prayer for your church.

How is spiritual fruit produced in the life of a Christian? What about plants? Have you ever seen a branch or leaf that can survive without the stalk of the plant? No. That’s not the way it works is it?

We’ve started out the year with eight days of prayer because prayer is a life blood of the church. We began the year with this emphasis on prayer because we will not be a church that grows spiritually, we will not be effective for the Lord Jesus Christ, we will not please God, if we aren’t serious about prayer.

Last week as we began the new year I gave you 3 reasons, as God’s children, we are to pray. First, we are commanded to pray. Second, Jesus prayed, and if Jesus needed to pray so do we. Third, the early church learned quickly that they needed to pray and they made it their continual practice to pray as God’s people.

North Country Notes – January 6, 2012

It’s Friday as I write and it’s been a beautiful and warm day here in northern Michigan. Rare, spring-like warmth for January. I had to remind myself it was winter.

We’re almost at the end of our eight days of prayer at Higgins Lake Baptist Church. We had almost thirteen and a half hours of daily prayer commitments. I’m so encouraged by that. Thank you for your prayer commitments. I’ve heard from some of you who’ve said you found you prayed much longer each day than you had planned. That’s great! So how has your prayer time been this week? I’d love to hear about your experience during this special week of prayer so send me an Email.

We saw my son, Kevin Michael, off to Camp Barakel this week where he will serve for at least the next two months as seasonal staff. Kevin is posting articles and pictures on his blog about his experience this winter. Keeping up with his ministry there will be a good reminder pray for him. He really appreciates your prayers. Here’s the first article he shared yesterday.

Mark your calendar and plan to join us a week from Sunday, January 15 for the 6 PM evening service following which we’ll enjoy a time of fellowship. Bring a snack item or two to share.

I hope to see you all Sunday as we wrap up our 8 days of prayer. I hope too that you don’t stop praying, but that this has been a refreshing reminder of your need of constant and faith filled prayer.

…The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (James 5:16)

Why Pray as God’s People? Isn’t God in control? Doesn’t God already know all about our needs? So why pray?

North Country Notes – December 30, 2011

Are you ready for a new year? I’m excited for a new year and I hope you are too.

Here’s what we get with a new calendar. An opportunity to commit ourselves afresh to praying for the work that God is doing in our midst at Higgins Lake Baptist Church. I’m greatly encouraged that almost 12 hours of daily prayer have been committed to for our 8 Days of Prayer. Will you join us too? If you haven’t already, go to the web form here and share with me your commitment to pray daily from January 1st through the 8th.

With a new year we also gain a new opportunity to have our minds changed for the best. Here’s how. Read the Bible through in 2012. Here’s a list of Bible reading plans. There’s something there for everyone. Find one you like and stick to it. I’d love to hear you tell me, about May or June, “I’m really enjoying reading through the Bible this year.” We also have a very nice “Through the Bible in a Year” plan available on the literature table at church.

This Sunday we return to our regular schedule of services with Sunday School at 10 AM, morning worship at 11 AM and evening worship at 6 PM. Being together as a church for worship will be a great way to start the new year.

I’ll have special messages on prayer in the morning and evening services to encourage you as we begin our 8 Days of Prayer together.

I’m praying you have a blessed new year and I hope to see you on the first day of 2012.

Will you join us during the first eight days of January 2012 as we pray for the ministry of Higgins Lake Baptist Church?

We’re beginning 2012 with 8 days of prayer.

Just as we did at the beginning of 2011 we’re starting 2012 as a church in prayer. Leading up to our Eight Days of Prayer we’ll have plenty of ideas to help you pray for the ministry God has made us all a part of here at Higgins Lake Baptist Church:

praying for our leaders
praying for those who teach
praying for one another
praying for our missionaries
praying for the salvation of our family, friends and neighbors

Will you commit to joining one another in prayer each day for 8 days from Sunday, January 1 through Sunday, January 8?
